Heinrich Rudolf Hertz

PHYSICIST NAME: Heinrich Rudolf Hertz
STUDENT NAME: Angela Mari Peralta

BIOGRAPHY & CONTRIBUTIONS

Heinrich Rudolf Hertz was born on February 22, 1857. He was a German physicist who clarified and expanded the electromagnetic theory of light that had been put forth by Maxwell. He was the first to satisfactorily demonstrate the existence of electromagnetic waves by building an apparatus to produce and detect VHF or UHF radio waves.

Hertz was born in Hamburg, Germany, into a prosperous and cultured Hanseatic family. His father, Gustav Ferdinand Hertz, was a barrister and later a senator. His mother was the former Anna Elisabeth Pfefferkorn. He had three younger brothers and one younger sister.

He studied sciences and engineering in the German cities of Dresden, Munich and Berlin, where he studied under Gustav R. Kirchhoff and Hermann von Helmholtz.
Hertz obtained his PhD from the University of Berlin in 1880. Also took a post as a lecturer in theoretical physics, and became a full professor at the University of Karlsruhe where he discovered electromagnetic waves.

OBJECT OF INTEREST

I chose Heinrich Hertz because as a Mass Communication Students, he gave striking materials that are very useful for us. First, was expanding the electromagnetic theory of light and the second was producing radio waves. In his achievement, it will inspire us people to do something good about our country. People are not that aware of radio waves, but it is very relevant when we are talking about radio, it is a way of fixing radio communication.
